Online Marketing Important if You Only Work Locally?

She asks:

Is Online Marketing Important to Local Businesses Who Only Work Locally

No matter what level of business in large, small, near, or far, you need to look at where it is you are going to get your business from. You also need to know how it is you are going to be able to keep up with the other companies competing for your business. Even if you are a small business and you only want to remain local, you need to understand that the rest of the world is at your door and they want your business.

In order to be able to keep these other entities away, you are going to need to compete with them at least to some degree on their own playing field. This is where it is important to make sure you are using all of the tools at your disposal to get your name out there. This means you will need to make sure that you are looking at establishing some sort of online presence. You may be thinking to yourself that everyone in my community knows who I am and what I have. That may be true, but many of them are looking at what is available in other places as well. They will look online to see what it is they can get and then if you have a presence and it is well established and well put together, then it will show up for them.

Do You Really Need This Though

A thousand times over, unless you want to be closing your doors a lot sooner than anticipated, then you will want to make yourself known in cyberspace. Even if you feel as though it is something that cannot benefit you, you need to look again. Start to look at how your sales have started to change and consider the different trends. It is not all because of the economy. People will look to other places if you are not prominent and the first thing that comes to mind when they are looking for what you have.

This means you need carefully to consider how it is you want to make yourself known to the online world. You will need to make sure that not only do people know who you are, but how to find you online as well. This is why you will need to make sure that your regulars as well as the people who you do not see very often know you have jumped into cyberspace. Once they are aware of where they can find you, they may come back to visit periodically and if your site is memorable enough they will tell others about it and you. So, you will be building business not only through the internet, but through word of mouth as well.

Now think about what would happen if you decided you did not need to be online. You would be losing more and more business as more and more people look for where to go by looking online. If you are not there, then they will have no reason to even give you any consideration. They think to themselves that you may not even exist anymore, because you are not in the most common place for them to look in order to find what they need. So not being online will cost you business no matter how you look at it.
