The promise and practicality of website content management systems

Way back in the last century, even before we started Dotcomweavers as a new jersey based web design company, professionals recognized the immense potential benefits that could come from utilizing a content management system (CMS). By building in a CMS to create, manage, store and deploy content on the websites they designed, they could empower the site’s owners in numerous ways, including:

  • Anybody you give access to the system can change and add to the content of your website from anywhere. You don’t need a separate web professional on staff or retainer to keep your site fresh and up-to-date. And the modern CMSs, our web developers NJ team deploys take almost no time for the company’s own authors to learn.

Reasons You Need a Professional Web Design

Tuesday, August 16th, 2011 at 7:50 pm by Jennifer

Professional web designers provide you with a service. Just like hiring a plumber or hiring someone to come to your home to fix the electrical problems you have, when it comes to your website, you need a professional to help with it. Consider your home itself. You could go out, chop down some wood and build your own home. You could do that but you know it may not provide you with the best-finished product, unless you are a skilled homebuilder. The same is true of web design. A professional gets the job done better. You Don’t Just Need a Website

Tuesday, August 16th, 2011 at 7:37 pm by Jennifer

You are moving or upgrading your business online. All you need is a website, right? While this may seem like it is the only thing you really need to focus on when moving your business online, there is more to it than that. In fact, you should not think of this as a single investment but rather a series of decisions you need to make regarding the updating of your site. In other words, a website is made up of smaller, individual decisions. The compilation of each one of these decisions will create the website you want to represent your business. (more…)

Email from a Reader: “I need an Overhaul”

Tuesday, August 9th, 2011 at 8:51 pm by Jennifer

Today we have an email that was submitted by one of our readers:

I am a resident of New York and recently started my own business. I thought I had done a good job researching everything I would need, especially for my website. I didn’t want to spend a lot of money hiring a professional team of web designers, so I opted to find a freelance web designer online. I used a service similar to Elance.com to find this person.

Let me just say that I have followed DCW’s blog for the last 4 months and usually put the advice you guys offer to good use. It has helped me greatly. SO of course, the one time I go against it, it bites me in the rear-end. (more…)

Website Navigation Is Important for Funneling Users Where You Want Them to Go

Thursday, July 28th, 2011 at 12:49 pm by Dotcomweavers Inc, NJ

Website Navigation

Website navigation is an important consideration for any website owner. The fact is people who use the Internet want a fast and efficient way to find the information they need. Rather than trying to find that information on a website that is four or five clicks away, they would rather go back to the search engine and find a website that has the information all laid out for them. It is that important to have a well-planned navigation system in place for your website if you plan to have success with that site. (more…)

Web Design Should include Functionality

Monday, May 30th, 2011 at 6:45 pm by Jennifer

There’s no doubt that website aesthetics are important. Gone are the days of using standard templates to create websites for just about any product or service. In recent years, technology has evolved way beyond the standard – a multitude of options are now available for those creating their own online ‘home’. People are no longer impressed by basic designs, competition is fierce in the online world, and users are instinctively drawn to the sites that are deemed to be more attractive in appearance. Google Instant: Here to Stay

Thursday, April 28th, 2011 at 11:46 pm by Jennifer

Maybe you’ve noticed and maybe you haven’t, but the option to turn off Google Instant, next to the ‘Search’ button on your Google results page, is no longer available. I guess the feature is now a permanent fixture for users.

This is great news for those of you who use it and think it’s the greatest thing since sliced bread. For the rest of us, that find it annoying, it’s just another kick in the butt. (more…)
